Dhananjaya de Silva has assumed the role of captain for the Sri Lanka Test team, taking over from Dimuth Karunaratne.
Upul Tharanga, the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Selection Committee, announced that Kusal Mendis will serve as the vice-captain for the Test team. In the upcoming Test match against Afghanistan, Dhananjaya and Kusal will lead as captain and vice-captain, respectively.
Furthermore, Tharanga revealed the 17-member Sri Lanka ODI squad for the upcoming series against Zimbabwe. Kusal Mendis will lead the ODI team, with Charith Asalanka appointed as the vice-captain. The preliminary squad initially comprised 21 players, but Kamindu Mendis, Chamika Karunaratne, Asitha Fernando, and Chamika Gunasekara did not make the final cut.

Tharanga also disclosed that Wanindu Hasaranga will lead the T20 squad, with Charith Asalanka as the vice-captain. He expressed the committee's intention to have Kusal Mendis as the ODI Captain until the ODI World Cup in 2027 and Wanindu Hasaranga as the T20I Captain beyond the 2024 T20 World Cup. Tharanga shared this information during his first media address since his recent appointment, with Dilruwan Perera, Indika De Seram, Ajanath Mendis, and Tharanga Patharanwithana present at the press conference.
