In a decisive 12-day operation dubbed 'Yukthiya,' law enforcement agencies have achieved a major breakthrough, apprehending a staggering 17,837 suspects in what is now recognized as one of the most extensive crackdowns in recent history, according to official police reports.
Of the apprehended individuals, 850 are currently undergoing further interrogation, held under detention orders as part of ongoing investigations.
The operation's primary focus on combating narcotics proved highly successful, resulting in the seizure of 10 kilograms of heroin, 6 kilograms of ICE drug, 5 kilograms and 288 kilograms of cannabis, 2,110,500 cannabis plants, 118 kilograms of Mawa, and 71,271 narcotic pills. All confiscated substances have been securely taken into police custody.
Beyond the narcotics aspect, 'Yukthiya' also targeted individuals involved in illegal assets, leading to the investigation of 186 suspects. Additionally, 1,187 drug addicts were redirected to rehabilitation centers, highlighting a comprehensive approach to addressing the multifaceted issues associated with criminal activities.
The collaborative efforts of the Police Narcotics Bureau and the Special Bureau were particularly noteworthy, resulting in the joint arrest of 73 suspects out of 4,665 individuals listed as island re-convicted criminals. Moreover, a total of 1,375 suspects from the same list have been successfully apprehended by these bureaus, further emphasizing the impact of 'Yukthiya' in curbing criminal activities across the region.
