In a recent development, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has firmly refuted reports suggesting that it accepted responsibility for the islandwide power outage that occurred in Sri Lanka earlier this month.
Contrary to earlier claims citing a statement by the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), the CEB asserts that it has not acknowledged fault for the nationwide power failure.
The CEB released a statement, dismissing the reported remarks of the PUCSL Chairman as false. According to the electricity board, its Internal and External Investigation Committees are still in the process of compiling and analyzing their respective reports, which will provide insights into the root cause of the islandwide power failure.
Sri Lanka experienced a widespread power outage on the evening of December 09, lasting for several hours before the power supply was gradually restored. Initially, it was presumed that a fault in the line running from Kotmale to Biyagama was responsible for the all-island power failure. The CEB remains committed to uncovering the true cause of the incident through ongoing investigations.
