The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) have imposed sanctions on three of their premier international cricketers, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazal Haq Farooqi And Naveen Ul Haq Mureed, after they refused to sign central contracts. The sanctions include no central contract for one-year alongside a ban on providing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for the next two years.
This comes as a major blow to their current franchises in different leagues, including the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL), where all three of them are part of the 2024 edition of the tournament. While Naveen and Farooqi were retained by their respective franchises Lucknow and Hyderabad, Mujeeb was recently bought in the auction by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for his base price of ₹ 2 Crores.
A top member of the ACB's dedicated committee shed light on the matter and ascertained that these three wanted to get themselves released from the contract while also hoping to represent the national side on different occasions.
