The police constable who tragically drowned while attempting to apprehend a suspect in Ja Ela has been honored with a posthumous promotion.
Police Constable Krishnamoorthi Prathapan, aged 26, has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant, according to Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa.
The incident occurred on 23 November when a group of police officers were pursuing a suspect who had jumped into a canal in an effort to escape arrest. Constable Prathapan was reported missing after he also entered the canal.
Eyewitnesses stated that four officers had entered the water, but Constable Prathapan did not resurface. Tragically, his body was recovered the following day in the lagoon area of Pamunugama, Negombo.
In recognition of his dedication and sacrifice, Constable Prathapan has been posthumously promoted, ensuring that his memory and service to the police force will be honored.
