The Government of Sri Lanka is considering increasing salaries by Rs 5,000 starting from January 2024, followed by a total increase of Rs 10,000 from April.
This decision was discussed during a recent meeting of the State Revenue Unit, led by President Ranil Wickramasinghe.
The discussions were based on the financial projections presented in the 2023 expected report from the President's Office. The report indicated that the proposed salary increase could be implemented as early as January.
Under this plan, government employees can anticipate a Rs 5,000 raise from January onwards, while pensioners will receive a full increase of Rs 2,500.
During the budget speech, it was announced that government employees would also receive a living expenses allowance of Rs 10,000. This allowance will be disbursed in two installments, with Rs 5,000 being given in April and the remaining amount in October. Pensioners, on the other hand, will receive a lump sum increase of Rs 2,500 in April
