Effective from October 01, 2023, Sri Lanka will enforce a ban on the manufacturing and sale of single-use plastic products, as announced by the Central Environment Authority (CEA).
This ban will encompass various items including plastic straws, cups, plates, knives, forks, spoons, as well as plastic string hopper trays, garlands, and similar products.
The primary objective behind this initiative is to tackle the issue of plastic waste and promote environmental sustainability within the country.
Previously, the CEA had already prohibited the production, sale, and use of polythene with a thickness of less than 20 microns, starting from September 1, 2017.
