A consortium led by renewable energy company WindForce PLC has been selected to undertake Sri Lanka's largest private sector renewable energy project.
The project involves the establishment of a 100 MW solar power plant with a transmission facility in Siyambalanduwa, located in the Monaragala district. The estimated investment for the project is $152 million, and it is expected to be completed before 2025.

The consortium includes Lakdhanavi Ltd, a prominent independent power producer in Sri Lanka, and The Blue Circle Pte Ltd, a reputable renewable energy company based in Singapore.
This project aims to set a new standard in Sri Lanka's renewable energy sector by integrating advanced energy storage technology. It will be the first time such technology is utilized in the country. The project will incorporate a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) alongside the solar plant.
Given the significance and scale of the project, the tariff structure will be dollar-pegged, according to WindForce.
This project represents the largest renewable energy initiative ever awarded to the private sector by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
