The United States and Sri Lanka have highlighted the importance of cooperation in addressing environmental security, recognizing that all countries, regardless of their size, are susceptible to the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation.
During the 12th annual Indo-Pacific Environmental Security Forum (IPESF) hosted by the Sri Lanka Navy, US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung emphasized the US vision of a world where all countries, big or small, have equal opportunities for success and stability.
Chung stated that countries worldwide are experiencing record-breaking weather extremes, affecting everyone, regardless of their location. She cited recent droughts in Sri Lanka as examples of how climate impacts can impact food security.
In light of these challenges, Chung stressed the need for collaboration and knowledge sharing to find innovative solutions. She emphasized that it is imperative for countries to come together and address these common environmental challenges.
The IPESF, attended by representatives from 28 countries, focused on the theme of "Environmental Resilience through Cooperation."
