A group of 54 Sri Lankan expatriate workers, consisting of 53 housemaids and one male household servant, who had been residing in Kuwait without proper visas, arrived in Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lanka Embassy in Kuwait facilitated their return and made the necessary arrangements.
These individuals hailed from various districts in Sri Lanka, including Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Galle, Matara, and Moneragala. Initially, they had left their agreed upon places of employment in search of better wages elsewhere.
However, due to various reasons such as illnesses, family problems, and the expiration of their visas, they were compelled to return to their home country.
The Sri Lankan Embassy stepped in and provided them with temporary passports to ensure their safe return. Upon arrival at the Katunayake airport, the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau supported them by covering their transportation expenses to their respective areas.
