Former Sri Lanka cricket captain Kumar Sangakkara has revealed further details of an alleged discriminatory incident involving Ryanair gate staff at Dublin Airport while travelling with his family.

In a social media post, Sangakkara alleged that he was told passengers holding passports like his should expect such treatment.

He further claimed that when his family questioned the conduct of the airline staff, they were warned that arguing with airline personnel could lead to them being considered a threat to other passengers and subsequently denied boarding.

Strongly criticising the alleged remarks, Sangakkara rejected the suggestion that the treatment was applied equally to all passengers, describing the comments about passports as “disgusting” and the conduct as racist.

The latest clarification follows his earlier allegations that Ryanair gate personnel had behaved in a discriminatory and threatening manner towards him and his family.

In his initial social media post, Sangakkara described the experience as shocking and unacceptable, raising concerns over the way airline staff addressed his family and handled the procedures.

However, the precise circumstances that led to the confrontation remain unclear, and the allegations have not been independently verified.
