Around 40 Iranian sailors aboard commercial vessels located approximately 24 nautical miles off the Sri Lankan coast were brought ashore through the Port of Galle, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated.
The operation was carried out on humanitarian grounds in response to urgent requests for assistance regarding the sailors’ health conditions.
The Iranian Embassy in Colombo organised and facilitated the operation.
Following their arrival on land, the sailors received the necessary medical treatment and subsequently departed for their home country, the Ministry further stated.
