Special security measures have been put in place at the Hulftsdorp (Aluthkade) court complex today (22), ahead of the delivery of the final verdict in the case related to the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks.

Police have deployed several special teams to secure the court premises as the highly anticipated judgment is scheduled to be delivered this morning.

The case involves 24 defendants facing more than 23,270 charges, including allegations of conspiracy and aiding and abetting in connection with the Easter Sunday bombings.

The verdict will be delivered by a three-member Trial-at-Bar comprising High Court Judges Navaratne Marasinghe, Ramanathan Kannan and Sujeewa Nissanka.

The Attorney General had filed the case against the 24 accused, including Naufer Moulavi.

During the lengthy trial, evidence was presented by 2,309 witnesses before the court. The recording of evidence concluded on August 24, after which the three-member bench announced that the final judgment would be delivered today.
