A suspect arrested with eight firearms, a stock of live ammunition and over two kilograms of heroin in Wabada, Kadawatha, has been identified as a key associate of an overseas-based criminal, police said.

The suspect was arrested by officers of the Western Province North Crime Division while he was staying at a rented house in the Wabada area, based on information received by the police.

During questioning, police recovered more than two kilograms of heroin, 534 live rounds of various types, eight locally manufactured firearms and two pairs of handcuffs from his possession.

According to police, the suspect told investigators that he had kept the firearms and drugs on the instructions of an overseas-based criminal and had handed them over to various individuals as directed.

Police said investigations have further revealed that the suspect is believed to have been a main person involved in transporting drugs and firearms for the overseas-based criminal.

Investigators have also found information linking the suspect to the murder of Dan Priyasad, with the suspect's father reportedly identified as the main suspect in the killing, police said.
