The Sri Lanka Police has temporarily suspended online submissions for Police Clearance Certificates due to essential maintenance work currently being carried out on its clearance computer system.
To ensure services remain available, the Police Media Division announced that applicants can temporarily submit their applications in person through their nearest police station until the computerized system is fully restored.
Under this interim procedure, applicants must visit the official Sri Lanka Police website (www.police.lk), navigate to the "Digital Services" section, access "Clearance Certificate," and download the application form via the "Download Application" option. Once completed, the applicant must take the form to their nearest local police station alongside original supporting documents: their National Identity Card (NIC), Passport, and Birth Certificate.
If there is a discrepancy between the applicant's name on their NIC and their Passport, a copy of an affidavit must also be provided. However, this affidavit is only necessary if the Police Clearance Certificate needs to be issued under the name appearing in the passport. Applicants currently living abroad can authorize a close relative to submit these required documents to the relevant local police station on their behalf.
At the police station, an officer will assist the applicant in entering their information into the system. Applicants are instructed to carefully verify all details for accuracy before confirming and signing the application, as police officers will not be able to make any amendments once the data is entered.
An application fee of Rs. 5,000 will be charged, and an official receipt will be issued upon payment at the police station.
The Police Media Division emphasized that applications are no longer being accepted via the temporary email address ([email protected]) previously made available. Those who have already submitted applications through that email must reapply by submitting a fresh application at their nearest police station following the new process. Meanwhile, foreign nationals seeking clearance certificates should submit their applications through the Sri Lankan Embassy in their respective countries.
The standard online submission portal will be reinstated as soon as system maintenance is completed.
