The Department of Meteorology has issued a severe lightning warning for several provinces and districts across Sri Lanka.

The advisory, issued at 10:00 a.m. today (15), will remain valid until 11:30 a.m.

The warning covers the North Central, North Western, Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provinces, as well as the districts of Ampara, Batticaloa, Vavuniya and Mannar.

The Department said there is an increased risk of severe lightning in these areas, with thunderstorms accompanied by strong lightning likely in some places during the evening or night.

Temporary strong winds may also occur during thunderstorms. The public has been urged to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of accidents caused by lightning and strong winds.
