A Borella-based business has been fined Rs. 300,000 after pleading guilty to three charges related to the sale and display of expired cosmetics, perfumes without marked prices and body-care products without required importer or distributor information.
The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) filed the case against The Fashion Store International (Pvt) Ltd, located on Baseline Road, Borella, Colombo 08, before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court No. 05.
The charges followed an inspection carried out by CAA investigation officers on August 18, 2026.
During the inspection, perfumes that did not carry the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) were found displayed for sale, in violation of Direction No. 85.
The officers also found creams that had expired in February 2026 displayed for sale alongside other products, in violation of Direction No. 52.
In addition, Body Milk creams that did not contain the required telephone number or website details of the importer or distributor were found displayed for sale, also in violation of Direction No. 85.
The company pleaded guilty to all three charges before court, following which the court imposed a total fine of Rs. 300,000.
The CAA urged consumers to check the Maximum Retail Price, expiry date and importer or distributor details when purchasing perfumes, cosmetics and other personal-care products.
Consumers can report suspected violations to the CAA through the 1977 hotline during office hours.
