Sri Lanka’s headline inflation rate increased to 7.2% in July, up from 6.5% in June, according to the Department of Census and Statistics.
The increase was driven largely by rising food prices. Food inflation climbed significantly from 3.3% in June to 4.9% in July.
Meanwhile, non-food inflation recorded a slight decline, falling from 9.3% in June to 9.2% in July, the department said.
The latest figures indicate that the rise in food prices was the main factor behind the overall increase in Sri Lanka’s inflation rate during July.
