A team of officers from the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Strike Force successfully arrested an organized criminal wanted under an Interpol Red Notice, along with two other suspects, in Malaysia with the cooperation of local and international police. The suspects were brought back to Sri Lanka by air on August 10, 2026.
A team of officers from the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Strike Force successfully arrested an organized criminal wanted under an Interpol Red Notice, along with two other suspects, in Malaysia with the cooperation of local and international police. The suspects were brought back to Sri Lanka by air on August 10, 2026.
The primary suspect is a 41-year-old resident of Ratmalana, who has also been found to have temporarily resided in Peradeniya and Tissamaharama. He is a defendant in two separate cases being heard before the Kandy Magistrate's Court, involving charges of abducting a person at gunpoint, assaulting them, and causing severe injuries in the Peradeniya police area in 2014, as well as committing a murder by shooting a person in the same police area in 2016. Open warrants have been issued for his arrest due to his failure to appear in court for these cases. Additionally, he was arrested by the Mount Lavinia Police in connection with a 2003 robbery investigated by the Colombo High Court, and for possession of a hand grenade in 2007.
At the time of the primary suspect's arrest in Malaysia, two other individuals accompanying him were also detained and subsequently brought back to the island for further investigations. These accompanying suspects include a 35-year-old resident of Ratmalana and a 31-year-old resident of Mount Lavinia.
Further investigations into all the suspects will be conducted under the instructions and direct supervision of the Inspector General of Police.
