Retired public health specialist Dr. Harsha Suranga Fernando was sworn in today (August 5) as the new Governor of the Central Province before President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat.

Dr. Fernando brings decades of experience in public health and international healthcare administration to his new role. He previously served as an immunization specialist with the World Health Organization (WHO), contributing to vaccination and disease prevention programmes in several countries.

Before joining the WHO, Dr. Fernando worked as a public health specialist in the Kandy District, where he played a key role in strengthening public health services and community healthcare initiatives.

His appointment is expected to bring extensive administrative and public health expertise to the governance of the Central Province. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Presidential Secretariat in the presence of senior government officials.
