Opposition MP Namal Rajapaksa has called for urgent reforms to Sri Lanka's prison system, blaming the latest prison unrest on poor management, negligence, and systemic failures.
He said recurring disturbances highlight deeper issues, including overcrowding, inadequate healthcare, poor facilities, and the lack of rehabilitation programmes. Rajapaksa also criticised the Government for failing to appoint a permanent Commissioner General of Prisons, arguing that increasing security alone would not address the root causes of the crisis.
