Heavy rainfall over the western slopes of Sri Lanka's Central Highlands has caused water levels in the Castlereigh and Maussakelle reservoirs to rise steadily, with both approaching their spill levels, according to the engineers in charge of the reservoirs.
Officials from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) stated that the Maussakelle catchment area received 25 millimetres of rainfall during the past 24 hours. As of the latest update, the reservoir's water level remains 31 feet 2 inches below its spill level.
Meanwhile, the Castlereigh Reservoir is currently 16 feet 2 inches below its spill level. By around 6:00 a.m. today (August 2), the reservoir's catchment area had recorded 26 millimetres of rainfall, the official added.
Authorities continue to closely monitor rainfall and reservoir water levels as wet weather persists across the Central Highlands.
