Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) President Jaswar Umar has been unanimously elected Vice President of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) at the SAFF Executive Committee meeting held in Thimphu, Bhutan.

According to the FFSL, Umar received the unanimous backing of all seven SAFF Member Associations—Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

The appointment marks another milestone for Sri Lankan football and strengthens the country's representation in regional football administration.

Umar, who assumed the FFSL presidency just over two years ago, has overseen a series of reforms aimed at developing the sport in Sri Lanka. The FFSL said the country's FIFA world ranking has improved from 207 to 187 during his tenure, its highest position in more than 15 years.

The federation also credited his administration with introducing governance reforms, strengthening domestic competitions, expanding youth and grassroots football programmes, and promoting the long-term development of the sport.

In addition to his new role at SAFF, Umar serves as a member of the FIFA Grassroots Football Committee and the AFC Development Committee.

Meanwhile, Kazi Salahuddin of Bangladesh was re-elected unopposed as SAFF President for a fifth consecutive term at the SAFF Congress held in Thimphu on Saturday.
