The Department of Meteorology has issued a special weather advisory warning of adverse conditions expected over the next 24 hours across several coastal regions of Sri Lanka.
According to the advisory, intermittent showers are forecast along the coastal belt stretching from Chilaw through Colombo, Galle, and Matara.
Winds are expected to blow predominantly from the southwest at speeds of 30 to 40 km/h. However, stronger winds reaching 60 to 70 km/h may occur at times in coastal areas extending from Kankesanthurai to Mannar, as well as from Colombo to Galle, Hambantota, and Pottuvil.
Meanwhile, coastal waters from Trincomalee to Mullaitivu and around Kankesanthurai could experience wind speeds of 50 to 60 km/h.
The Department has warned that sea conditions along these coastal stretches may become rough at times due to the strengthening winds.
Mariners, fishing communities, and those engaged in sea-related activities are urged to exercise extreme caution and remain updated on the latest weather information. Authorities have advised all seafarers to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety until conditions improve.
