Sri Lanka Customs officials at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake have seized a consignment of narcotics valued at more than Rs. 106 million that arrived from Thailand.

The illegal drugs were discovered inside a parcel declared as a gift shipment that had been transported on a flight from Bangkok on July 24. The package had been kept in storage pending customs clearance and was inspected by customs officers on July 31.

During the inspection, officials uncovered 10.608 kilograms of narcotics concealed inside polythene packets hidden within metal containers. The seized drugs included marijuana and hashish, according to Customs authorities.

The total street value of the confiscated narcotics is estimated to exceed Rs. 106.08 million (over Rs. 10 crore). Customs officials have launched further investigations to identify those responsible for the shipment and determine its intended recipients in Sri Lanka.
