The verdict in the case against former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujitha Jayasundara is scheduled to be delivered today (July 31) by a three-judge bench of the Colombo High Court.
The two former senior officials are facing charges filed by the Attorney General, including allegations of criminal negligence and dereliction of duty for allegedly failing to take adequate action to prevent the 2019 Easter Sunday terrorist attacks despite receiving prior intelligence warnings.
The trial concluded recently after the hearing of evidence and submissions. The judgment is expected to determine whether the prosecution has proven the charges brought against the accused.
