The 18th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Sri Lanka - Maldives Business Council, affiliated with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, was held with great success with the participation of several state and business leaders from both countries.

Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development, Wasantha Samarasinghe, attended the event as the Chief Guest, while His Excellency Masood Imad, the High Commissioner of the Maldives to Sri Lanka, attended as the Guest of Honour.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe highlighted that the further strengthening of relations between Sri Lanka and the Maldives amidst global economic challenges is commendable. 

The Minister urged businesses to move beyond traditional import-export boundaries and focus on areas such as Ayurveda, holistic medicine, education, healthcare, tourism, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He added that the Sri Lankan government is committed to ensuring a transparent, stable, and investor-friendly business environment.

Speaking at the event, the High Commissioner of the Maldives to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Masood Imad, praised the centuries-old friendship between the two nations and emphasized the need to address economic disparities to build a balanced and mutually beneficial relationship.

At the meeting, the Sri Lanka - Maldives Business Council reaffirmed its commitment to serving as a strong economic bridge, continuing to expand trade, investment, and tourism links between the two countries.
