Badulla High Court today (28) sentenced Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Parliamentarian Chaminda Wijesiri to one-and-a-half years’ imprisonment after finding him guilty in a case involving the wrongful restraint, assault and causing injuries to two police officers in 2019.
The court imposed the sentence after considering charges that included issuing death threats to the police officers and causing bodily harm during the incident. The case relates to an incident reported in 2019, for which legal proceedings were subsequently initiated against the MP
Mp Wijesiri, who represents the Badulla District in Parliament, is a member of the SJB and has previously served as a parliamentarian from the district.
