Sri Lanka today launched National Integrity Week under the theme "A Culture of Integrity – A Clean Sri Lanka," with the nationwide programme set to run from July 27 to July 31.
The initiative has been announced through a circular signed by Presidential Secretary Dr. Nandika Kumanayake and is being jointly implemented by the Presidential Secretariat and the Clean Sri Lanka Programme.
The week officially commenced at 9:00 a.m. today with the administration of the National Integrity Pledge and the launch of the Code of Ethics at the Presidential Secretariat and all government institutions across the country.
The primary objective of National Integrity Week is to enhance the quality, efficiency and transparency of Sri Lanka's public service while promoting an exemplary administrative system that is free from corruption.
Within the programme, integrity is defined as carrying out public duties with self-discipline, self-control and self-accountability, while adhering to one's conscience through honesty, transparency and ethical conduct.
A series of daily themes has been introduced throughout the week:
July 27: Promoting Institutional Integrity
July 28: Promoting Financial, Digital, Entrepreneurial and Technological Integrity
July 29: Promoting Spiritual, Ethical, Cultural and Social Integrity
July 30: Promoting Operational, Infrastructure, Service Delivery and Labour Integrity
July 31: Promoting Environmental, Resource Management, Rural and Community Empowerment Integrity
As part of the initiative, Internal Affairs Units established in every government institution under the guidance of the Presidential Secretariat will receive public complaints related to corruption and administrative irregularities.
Members of the public may submit complaints through QR codes, email, postal mail, telephone calls or web-based messaging platforms. A dedicated digital monitoring system operated by the Presidential Secretariat will oversee the actions taken by heads of institutions in response to these complaints.
Although National Integrity Week concludes on July 31, the Government has announced that the programme will continue across all state and semi-government institutions until December 31 to ensure the sustained implementation of integrity and good governance initiatives.
