The 23rd Commonwealth Games officially commenced yesterday (23) in Glasgow, Scotland, marking one of the world's largest multi-sport events after the Olympic Games and the Asian Games.
The competition will run until August 2 and features nearly 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories. Organizers have reduced the number of sports to 10 as part of efforts to manage costs and deliver a more streamlined event.
All competitions will be held within an eight-mile radius of central Glasgow across four major sporting venues, ensuring convenient access for athletes and spectators. Scotland previously hosted the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014, making this the country's second time hosting the event.
Sri Lanka has sent a 40-member team to compete in seven sporting disciplines, with hopes of delivering strong performances throughout the Games.
