The Fort Magistrate's Court today (24) issued a warrant for the arrest of Jaffna District MP Ramanathan Archchuna after he failed to appear before court in connection with an ongoing case.

 The warrant was issued when the case was called before the court and neither the MP nor his sureties were present.

The case relates to an incident in which MP Archchuna is accused of obstructing Fort Police officers while they were carrying out their official duties.

A commotion broke out in Parliament after MP Ramanathan Archchuna claimed that a warrant had been issued for his arrest over his failure to appear in court today. Responding to the matter, Deputy Speaker Rizvie Salih said that necessary action would be taken.
