Sri Lanka's Parliament is scheduled to meet today at 9:30 a.m., with a full day of parliamentary business and debates on a range of public policy issues.
From 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., the House will conduct parliamentary business outlined under Standing Order 22(1)–(6).
The session from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. has been allocated for Questions for Oral Answers, followed by Questions under Standing Order 27(2) from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
From 11:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Parliament will debate several Private Members' Motions, including proposals to:
Promote self-sufficiency in Sri Lanka's dairy production sector.
Develop a national programme to protect and conserve mangrove ecosystems.
Expand the railway network from Batticaloa to Pottuvil or from Matara to Kalmunai.
Appoint a commission of inquiry into the compulsory cremation of Muslim COVID-19 victims during the pandemic.
Introduce a mechanism to prevent the artificial ripening of fruits using chemicals.
Formulate a national policy and framework for wildlife management in Sri Lanka.
Establish a dedicated special development fund to reduce regional disparities in development.
The day's proceedings will conclude with a debate on an Adjournment Motion brought by the Opposition, scheduled from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
