The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) received 5,523 complaints involving children between January and June 2026, Women and Child Affairs Minister Saroja Savithri Paulraj informed Parliament.
Responding to a parliamentary query, the Minister said the complaints included various forms of child abuse and other child protection concerns reported during the six-month period. CNN reported.
She further revealed that, as of April 30, 2026, a total of 4,421 child abuse cases were pending before the High Courts. The Government is taking steps to expedite legal proceedings to ensure the timely delivery of justice for child victims.
The Minister also announced plans to establish nine provincial video evidence recording units aimed at supporting child victims during court proceedings. The initiative is expected to reduce the trauma experienced by children by enabling them to provide evidence in a more child-friendly environment while strengthening the judicial process.
