The official appointment letter was presented to Dr. Karunawardena this afternoon at the Presidential Secretariat by Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
Dr. Karunawardena brings extensive experience in public administration and infrastructure-related fields to his new role. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Director General of the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO), where he played a key role in advancing research and policy initiatives related to building safety, disaster risk reduction, and geotechnical engineering.
His appointment comes as the Ministry continues to oversee the country's transport, highways, and urban development sectors, with a focus on infrastructure development and improved public services.
