The Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court today reissued a warrant for the arrest of former Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United States, Jaliya Wickramasuriya, after he failed to appear before court in connection with a case involving the alleged misappropriation of government funds.

The order was issued by Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena during proceedings held today.

The court also instructed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to obtain the Attorney General's advice on the matter and submit a progress report on the investigation.

The case has been fixed for December 9, when the CID is expected to update the court on the status of the investigation and any further action taken.

Mr Wickramasuriya has been named as a suspect in the ongoing case concerning the alleged misuse of state funds. The reissued arrest warrant remains in effect until he is produced before the court.
