The Court of Appeal has scheduled August 4 and 6 to consider intervening petitions filed in relation to the case brought by former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Suresh Sallay, who is challenging his arrest and detention by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

According to court proceedings, various intervening petitions have been submitted by parties seeking permission to present facts before the court. Among those who have filed applications are Venerable Bengamuwe Nalaka Thero and His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith.

The matter was taken up before a bench headed by Court of Appeal President Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya.

During the hearing, the Court stated that the intervening applications would be taken up only after the completion of submissions by President’s Counsel Sanjeeva Jayawardena, who is representing petitioner Suresh Sallay.

With the agreement of the legal representatives appearing for the intervening parties, the Court ordered that the petitions be called on August 4 and August 6 for consideration.
