The first of these centres will be officially inaugurated today (July 17) at the Naduuttu Grama Niladhari Division in the Kinniya Divisional Secretariat of the Trincomalee District.
The opening ceremony will be attended by the Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment, Dr. Upali Pannila, and the Deputy Minister, Vasantha Piyatissa.
Under the 2026 Budget allocations, the government has earmarked Rs. 250 million to establish the first 10 centres in the districts of Trincomalee, Ampara, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Kegalle, Mullaitivu, Kurunegala, Kalutara, and Anuradhapura.
The initiative aims to enhance the skills, social inclusion, and overall well-being of children with disabilities by providing dedicated day care and development services within their communities.
