The Department of Meteorology has issued a Heat Advisory warning of elevated temperatures expected on Thursday, July 17.
According to the advisory, which was released at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday (July 16), the heat index—the temperature felt by the human body—may reach the "Caution" level in parts of the Eastern Province and the districts of Mullaitivu, Vavuniya, and Monaragala during the daytime.
The Department has advised residents in the affected areas to take necessary precautions, including:
Drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated.
Avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
Wearing light and breathable clothing.
Paying special attention to elderly people, young children, and individuals with health conditions, as they are more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.
The Department of Meteorology urges the public to remain vigilant and follow the recommended safety measures to minimize the health risks associated with high temperatures.
