Former Provincial Councillor Jayalath Bandara Dissanayake, the brother of former Minister S.B. Dissanayake, has been arrested by the Central Crime Investigation Division. The arrest follows an investigation into a major financial fraud involving a sum of Rs. 27.5 million.
The Financial and Commercial Crimes Investigation Division of the Central Crime Investigation Division launched an inquiry based on a complaint lodged by a resident of Weeraketiya. The complainant alleged that the former councillor had defrauded him of Rs. 27,500,000 by promising to secure a liquor license.
Acting on the evidence gathered during the investigation, officers apprehended the 58-year-old suspect yesterday (14) morning in the Hanguranketha area.
The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate's Court today (15).
