The arrests were made during a special operation conducted by Customs officials following credible intelligence information received by the authorities.

Among those arrested are 17 Indian nationals and 9 Sri Lankan citizens. Notably, six of the suspects are women.

During the inspection, Customs officers discovered concealed gold in the possession of two of the suspects. Further investigations are underway to determine the full extent of the smuggling attempt and whether additional individuals were involved.

Sri Lanka Customs stated that the operation highlights ongoing efforts to combat cross-border smuggling and strengthen security measures at international passenger transport terminals.

The suspects are expected to face legal action under the relevant customs and smuggling regulations.
