At the Rome event, Tharanga delivered a standout performance, defeating several of the world's leading javelin throwers, including Anderson Peters of Grenada and Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago.
Germany’s Julian Weber continues to lead the world rankings with 1,360 points, maintaining his position as the world’s top-ranked javelin athlete.
Tharanga’s rise to second place has seen him overtake several globally renowned competitors, including Olympic champions. Among them are India’s Neeraj Chopra, who currently occupies fifth place, and Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who is ranked tenth. Another Indian thrower, Sachin Yadav, sits in eighth position.
