The development comes after the main suspect in the case, former intelligence chief Suresh Sallay—who is currently being held under detention orders—was admitted to the National Hospital, Colombo, due to a deterioration in his health condition.
According to police, investigators have identified an organised group that has been circulating false statements through electronic and social media platforms. The CID alleges that these activities are intended to generate public resentment, suspicion, and hostility toward the judiciary, thereby undermining the integrity of the judicial process.
Police said the CID has named several individuals as being involved in the alleged coordinated disinformation campaign. Those named include former Members of Parliament Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila, MP Dilith Jayaweera, former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s former private secretary Sugishwara Bandara, Sri Lanka Mahajana Party Leader Asanka Navaratne, and Senior Lecturer Mahinda Pathirana.
The Police confirmed that the CID submitted the report to the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court on Monday, seeking legal action against the individuals for alleged contempt of court and for allegedly interfering with the high-profile investigation.
