During the operation, CAA investigation officers discovered a large stock of packaged food items displayed for sale illegally. The products completely lacked essential details readable by local consumers, including the importer's information, Maximum Retail Price (MRP), batch number, manufacturing and expiry dates, and the list of ingredients.
In direct violation of consumer protection laws, the items carried absolutely no descriptions or instructions in the local languages, featuring labels printed entirely in foreign languages. The CAA has launched a formal investigation into the supermarket and confirmed that strict legal action will be taken against the management upon its completion.
Officials highlighted that this deceptive practice misleads both local and foreign consumers, leaving them completely unaware of the ingredients or proper usage of the food items. Selling packaged food without the manufacturer’s or importer’s details and mandatory legal disclosures poses a severe risk to public health and safety.
The CAA urges consumers to remain highly vigilant and inspect packaging for mandatory labeling information before making purchases. The public is requested to immediately report any such fraudulent or illegal business activities by contacting the CAA hotline at 1977 during office hours.
