Prasad Manju, who served as Media Secretary to former Cabinet Minister Wimal Weerawansa, has been arrested by officers of the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) in connection with an investigation into the alleged misuse of state-owned vehicles and fuel.
According to police, the arrest follows an ongoing probe into complaints that vehicles and fuel belonging to the State Engineering Corporation were used without proper authorization during the period when Weerawansa held ministerial office.
Investigators allege that state resources may have been utilized in a manner inconsistent with official regulations. Manju was taken into custody to assist investigators as inquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the alleged misuse.
Authorities stated that the investigation remains active and that any further legal action will be determined based on evidence gathered during the probe.
The FCID is expected to continue examining records and other evidence related to the case as part of its ongoing efforts to determine whether any violations of the law occurred.
