The fishermen had left for the sea on Tuesday night aboard two separate boats, authorities said. Search operations are expected to continue as concerns grow over the prevailing adverse weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology has warned that strong winds ranging between 55 and 65 kilometres per hour could affect sea areas off the coast from Kankasanthurai to Chilaw via Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

The department also stated that sea areas extending from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota could experience rough conditions with wave heights rising up to around 2.5 metres.

Naval and fishing communities have been advised to remain vigilant, while fishermen and those engaged in naval activities are urged to exercise extreme caution due to the turbulent sea conditions.
