According to Customs officials, 14 Chinese nationals who arrived from Kuala Lumpur on flight OD 297 at around 1.30 a.m. on May 28 were subjected to inspection upon arrival at the airport.
During the inspection, officials discovered 691 cartons containing 138,200 foreign cigarettes carefully concealed inside 14 pieces of luggage carried by the passengers.
The stock of cigarettes was subsequently taken into the custody of Sri Lanka Customs.
Following Customs investigations, authorities ordered the confiscation of the smuggled goods as state property.
