The Phase III section of the project will extend from Rambukkana to Galagedara and marks another major step in the expansion of Sri Lanka’s expressway network.
The construction contracts for the project were awarded through a competitive procurement process among qualified local contractors. Tenders had been called under seven contract packages using government funds for the implementation of the project.
Cabinet approval for the awarding of the contracts was recently granted based on the recommendations of the Standing Procurement Committee.
Meanwhile, construction work on the stretch from Pothuhera to Rambukkana has already reached its final stage. Authorities have now completed all preparations to begin the next phase from Rambukkana to Galagedara.
According to Central Expressway Project Engineer S.B. Wijekoon, approximately 19 kilometres of roadway will be constructed under this phase. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs. 112 billion.
The inaugural ceremony for the third phase will be held today (29) under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, with the participation of Minister Bimal Rathnayake and Deputy Minister Prasanna Gunasena.
