The Inspector General of Police has issued a set of special instructions to all police stations across the country with the aim of ensuring the safety and security of Muslim devotees participating in religious observances.
Accordingly, security has been strengthened at all major mosques where special prayers will be conducted, with police officers deployed in and around the respective areas.
In addition, a special traffic management plan has been introduced to facilitate the movement of worshippers and to minimize congestion around mosques.
Police further stated that mobile patrols, foot patrols, beat patrols, and motorcycle patrol units have been deployed in urban areas with large Muslim populations to enhance security measures. Intelligence officers have also been assigned duties to gather information and monitor the situation when necessary.
Sri Lanka Police emphasized that these measures are being implemented to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for devotees observing the Hajj festival.
