Organized under the theme “Abhiththaretha Kalyane” a sacred saying of the Buddha meaning “Hasten towards noble deeds”  the festival carries the social message: “Let us unite swiftly for the common good.”

The national Vesak celebrations will be held from May 27 to June 2, with a series of religious, cultural, and community programs taking place throughout the Matara District.

The official inauguration ceremony of this year’s State Vesak Festival is scheduled to be held today at the Midellawela Purana Rajamaha Viharaya in Thihagoda under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Large numbers of devotees and visitors are expected to participate in the week-long celebrations, which aim to promote Buddhist values, social harmony, and collective well-being across the country.
