LPBOA Chairman Gemunu Wijeratne said the minimum bus fare could rise to Rs. 40 if current economic trends persist, noting that fare adjustments are closely linked to key indicators such as the Colombo Consumer Price Index, interest rates, the US Dollar exchange rate, and vehicle prices.
He added that ongoing currency pressures are expected to weigh heavily on transport costs, warning that both operators and passengers could be affected if the trend continues.
